As a great leader, your job goes beyond managing tasks. It’s about inspiring everyone around you to find joy in their work.  And more importantly, to feel it.

Are you helping others feel this level of joy? Do you help people around you feel like they are making a difference?

It’s common for people, especially those doing entry-level jobs, to feel like they don’t matter. They may see themselves as replaceable or overlooked.

While it’s frustrating to spend time and energy training someone new when you’re unsure of the outcome, energy spent leading people is never wasted. It leaves an imprint on the person you’re working with and strengthens your leadership skills. On the other hand, showing them a lack of attention can push them to seek a different job, even for a slightly higher-paying wage.

So, how do you help others see how the role they play is an important piece of the overall puzzle?

People want to be led more and managed less.  Leading implies a journey. There’s a shared destination to reach. Great leaders create vision, helping each person understand their importance. Even the most routine tasks, like taking out the trash and cleaning the floors, are essential for everyone in the organization.

True leadership means acknowledging and accepting people for who they are and where they are in their journey.  This doesn’t mean settling for mediocrity.  It means recognizing that people are doing the best they can with the information they have right now.  From this foundation, you can guide them to grow and help them expand their perspective. Because tomorrow their actions can be different … because you’ll have given them more tools to work with.

Perhaps most importantly, how can you help them see that they bring things to your organization that no one else can? This is where your company finds its competitive advantage.

When leaders identify and encourage unique strengths and talents, your company cannot be replicated. How you innovate, connect with customers, and solve problems becomes exclusive to your organization and deeply valued by your clients.

Great leaders make sure everyone on their team knows they matter. They celebrate what each person brings to the table that no one else can.  This is leading with joy.
